The Coaches at Fitlife have the kids participating in activities that range from relay races and fitness games to various calisthenics, strength training and cardiovascular exercises. It is so touching and encouraging thinking back and remembering the first day these timid and shy individuals came into the Fitlife gym.
They showed fear when approaching the exercise equipment, they weren't sure about participating in the workouts Fitlife planned for them, and basically were unsure if they belonged. Today, we look at the kids and notice an entirely new attitude from them. The minute they walk in the door, they feel at home. Running from equipment to equipment, fully participating in all workouts and games, and having the time of their lives. The parents and siblings of these special children attend and participate in the sessions with them and have nothing but sincere thanks and heartwarming stories for the time their children spend at Fitlife. The families are very appreciative and comment how there isn’t a day that goes by when their children ask "do we have gym tonight" and they can’t wait to come.
The foundation had been financing the training for their kids to participate in the Fitlife program on a session to session basis. They had 1 more session left, and were going to take some time off and come back at a later date, but because the type of feedback Fitlife had been getting from the kids and their families, Fitlife decided to make this an ongoing event, FREE OF CHARGE. The reward that Fitlife receives working with these kids cannot be matched monetarily and they enjoy every minute of it. This has led to every Thursday night from 7-8pm being known as, Autism Cares Night at Fitlife.
Here are what some of the parents are saying about the program:
The FitLife Program has been absolutely wonderful for Rob. He is so proud to show us his muscles. The program encourages participation and socialization with his peers. He looks forward to going every week. It is very important that our children stay fit and healthy with exercise.”
Barbara Ezzo, Holland, PA
Mother of Robert, age 14
“TJ loves going to Fit Life every week. In addition to getting to hang out with all of his friends, he is also getting to work on strength, agility, and motor planning activities. The trainers at FitLife are so patient with all the kids, and never see their limitations. We are so thankful to have found a wonderful activity for him to participate in each week.”
Roseann Fox, Holland, PA
Mother of TJ, age 14
“We can’t say enough about the FitLife program. Our son Clay, who has motor-planning issues, needs lots of support to use some of the equipment. But my husband and I find that after he uses the elliptical machine and Jacob’s Ladder climbing treadmill, he has more language and better focus. It doesn’t matter that he can’t do all the activities. He is accepted for who his is, and is rooted on by the staff when he makes progress.”
Rosemarie Blumenthal, Holland, PA
Mother of Clay, age 16
